Just a reminder of our Club Events in May, June.
Like all of us, I hope the progress on freeing us from lockdown remains on track and we can all meet together again soon.
We have a committee meeting in 1W May, so no Club meeting that week.
Monday 10th May sees us having a Zoom talk on chasing VHF/ UHF DX using two new software tools – ON4KST and AirScout by Tim G6GEI. Tim will give us an overview to the software, which is heavily used by contesters, on how to use it to make DX contacts.
On Monday 17th May we have the next Special Interest homebrew/ constructors group Zoom meeting where we will be focusing on soldering and SMD type components. We hope to be also finalising and announcing a club construction project shortly afterwards. The Zoom details will be posted shortly.
The event for Monday 24th May is still being finalised.
Monday 7th June sees us have Mike Walker, VA3MW from Flex Radio speak to us on ‘ An overview of the FlexRadio HF radio design and architecture, and how it performs better than the older SuperHet design that we grew up with.
Monday 14th June we have a Digital Modes meeting night discussing the software and use of these modes.
Further meetings will be posted as soon as they have been finalised.
All being well, field days should be possible this year. The Club intends to operate in the SSB (4th and 5th September) and VHF (3rd and 4th July) NFD’s. Although those dates are some way off, preparations are already underway. Although steered by our contest team, all are welcome to join the events as we need as many operators as well as ‘putter uppers’ and ‘taker downers’ as possible. If there is sufficient interest, we could also put a small team together for the CW NFD on 5/6th June. Contact Tim, G6GEI or myself if you are interested.
Hopefully the ‘jab’ programme is getting to you all, and we can all start meeting again. Zoom is good, and has many benefits, but it is nothing like meeting up properly again.
Stay safe,
Phil G4FVZ
